Location: Manchester
Job Type: Temporary (ongoing)
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week
Hybrid Working: 3 days in the office, 2 days remote

We are seeking a skilled Import Operator to join our client’s dynamic Freight Management team. This is a key role, managing specific customer accounts and ensuring all freight requirements are handled effectively.
As Import Operator you’ll be working closely with customers, coordinating shipments, ensuring compliance, and resolving any issues that arise during the freight process.
Import Operator Key Responsibilities include:
- Organise the import of various cargo types via multiple transport modes
- Liaise with customers for shipment authorisations and provide regular updates
- Monitor and manage cargo movements from origin to final destination
- Ensure compliance with regulations and relevant documentation for cargo movement
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key customers
- Manage customs processes and ensure the smooth import of shipments
- Prepare quotations, maintain weekly P&Ls, and handle invoicing documents
- Identify new opportunities for additional business activities or routes
- Handle any customer service issues that arise, providing timely solutions
Personal Qualities:
- Methodical and detail oriented with strong communication skills
- Ability to work well under pressure and to strict deadlines
- Self motivated and able to work independently and within a team
- Flexible, with a hands on approach and willingness to take on varied tasks
Experience and Skills Required:
- Experience in international shipping and freight forwarding is essential
- Familiarity with import activities and customs processes
- Previous use of Cargowise (advantageous but not essential, training provided)
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and email communication
- Administrative experience and strong organisational skills
- Ability to solve problems and make decisions in a fast paced environment
