Salary: £30,609 – £39,614 Pro rata

Role Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated professional to lead and deliver a specialised service for children and young people (from birth to 18 years) experiencing a range of communication and developmental difficulties. This role requires expertise in clinical assessment, diagnosis, and therapeutic intervention for conditions with diverse, chronic, and complex presentations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert clinical assessment, diagnosis, and therapeutic interventions to children and young people with complex communication and developmental needs.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and with other professionals to offer an integrated service to patients and their families, maintaining the highest standards of care quality and efficiency.
  • Lead in specific areas of specialism and serve as a mentor to colleagues and other relevant health professionals.
  • Deliver specialist services across various community settings, including Children’s Health Centres, hospitals, patients’ homes, special and mainstream schools, and nurseries.
  • Address a broad spectrum of conditions, including but not limited to:
    • Autistic Spectrum Disorder
    • Down Syndrome
    • Craniofacial Conditions
    • Developmental Language Disorder
    • Learning Disabilities
    • Cerebral Palsy
    • Speech Sound/Articulation Disorders
    • Hearing Loss
    • Fluency Disorders
  • Act as a Senior Paediatric Speech & Language Therapy liaison, collaborating with external agencies such as Education, Social Services, and Private Care providers.
  • Participate in MDT/Interagency Panels as needed to enhance the provision of services for children with additional needs and their families.
  • Assume an advanced and clinical lead role in specialised intervention areas, providing mentoring and supervision for junior colleagues and students.
  • Assist with the planning and coordination of visiting Consultant Clinics and liaise with tertiary centres.
  • Provide targeted training and teaching to a diverse range of staff, carers, speech and language therapists, and other professionals.
  • Adapt flexibly to meet the needs across the Paediatric Speech & Language Therapy service.
  • Contribute to service delivery recommendations, including the preparation of business plans, service pathways, and specific reports.
  • Collaborate with other agencies to ensure a holistic approach to the therapeutic treatment and rehabilitation of patients and their families.

Requirements of the Speech and Language Therapist/SLT:

  • Degree or equivalent within Speech and Language Therapy and HCPC registration
  • Recent UK/NHS post qualifying experience working as a Speech and Language Therapist
