About Us

Spire Assist Limited provides high-quality, compliant staffing solutions for children’s homes and residential services. We put safeguarding and stability first — vetting staff thoroughly, delivering trauma-informed and SEND-aware training, and working as a collaborative partner with each home to reduce placement disruption and improve outcomes for young people. We pride ourselves on rapid response, specialist training, and a partnership approach that supports homes as well as the young people who live there.

About the role

As a Residential Support Worker with Spire Assist you will deliver day-to-day care, emotional support and practical guidance to young people in a residential setting. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to implement and maintain personalised care plans, support education and independence skills, and help create a safe, stable home environment. This role involves direct contact with children and young people who may have experienced trauma or who have complex needs; you will be expected to follow safeguarding, medication and data-protection procedures at all times.

Key responsibilities

– Work with the team to implement and review care plans, behaviour support plans, risk assessments and health plans.

– Provide 24-hour, person-centred support: personal care, emotional support, encouragement with life-skills and routines.

– Administer medication safely in line with policy and complete accurate records.

– Build positive relationships with young people based on trust and consistency; act as a key worker when required.

– Keep accurate written and electronic records, contribute to reports and attend reviews/meetings.

– Supervise and support young people on trips, appointments and community activities; attend meetings with schools, social workers and healthcare professionals.

– Participate in training (safeguarding, trauma-informed practice, de-escalation, first aid) and maintain mandatory learning.

About You — person specification

We’re looking for someone who demonstrates the following core skills and attributes:

– Clear, compassionate communication and strong listening skills; the ability to build rapport quickly.

– Patience, empathy and resilience when supporting children with complex needs or challenging behaviour.

– Good written skills and basic IT literacy for record-keeping and reporting.

– An understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality and professional boundaries.

– Calm, confident de-escalation skills and the ability to follow behaviour management plans.

Qualifications & experience (essential / desirable)

Essential

– Minimum 1 year’s experience in a similar residential or supported setting (working with children/young people).

– Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain) and right to work in the UK.

Desirable

– Level 3 Diploma in Children’s Health & Social Care / NVQ Level 3 for Residential Childcare or equivalent (or working towards it).

– Training or experience in trauma-informed practice, autism/ADHD awareness, positive behaviour support and first aid.

What we offer

– A compliance-first employer with specialist training programmes (safeguarding, trauma-informed practice, SEND awareness).

– Opportunities for development and a temp-to-permanent pathway where appropriate.

– Dedicated account manager, regular supervision, and a team that works as a collaborative partner with homes.

– Flexible shift patterns with opportunities for extra hours/bank work and paid sleep-ins where applicable.
