AI agents and assistants

Buyer's guide

AI agents and assistants plug into the way you already work: taking notes on calls and interviews, reviewing applications, scoring candidates and keeping your ATS up to date. They're often the quickest way to get value from AI without changing your core system.

What to look for

  • Accuracy you can check. Notes, summaries and scores should link back to their source (the recording, the CV, the application) so consultants can check them quickly.
  • It writes straight into your ATS. The time saved disappears if someone has to copy the results across. Check the Works with pages for your system.
  • Fair, explainable screening. If it ranks or scores candidates, ask how it decides, how it's tested for bias, and whether a person reviews every rejection.
  • Consent built in. If it records calls or interviews, it should help you tell candidates and clients, and keep a record of their consent.
  • Quick to switch on. The best assistants are working within days, not months.

Questions to ask before you sign

  • Which ATS and CRM fields does it update, and can we control them?
  • Where are recordings and transcripts stored, and for how long?
  • Is our data used to train AI models?
  • How do you test the screening and scoring for bias?
  • Can we start with one team, paying monthly, while we test it?

Watch out for

  • Recording calls without telling people. Make sure your process covers consent.
  • Scores treated as decisions. Use them to prioritise, and keep a person making the call.
  • Paying for several assistants that overlap. Check what your ATS already includes.
